Music Release: Calcutta, 2017

On May 20 2017, the first single of the Sleep Token collective’s second EP, titled Two, was released. The full EP would be released July 21 2017.

The word that appears on the cover, কলকাতা, is Bengali for Calcutta, or “Kolkata”.

There was a traditional music video released by Basick Records. It is one of the rare Sleep Token songs to have officially provided lyrics.

Today we celebrate the release of the collective’s second EP, TWO, back in 2017, a full 7 years ago this day.

Calcutta was the first single released on May 5 2017. Nazareth followed as the second, on June 9 2017.

Jericho’s official audio was posted to YouTube on this day as well.

The label site redirects to their Bandcamp profile now but here is the page announcing the release from the illustrious Web Archive. The date does say July 20 2017 but the official date is listed on Bandcamp as July 21 2017.

If you have the time, this curator wholeheartedly advises you to read the reviews linked in the aforementioned Web Archive link. It is pleasing to see such praise for the collective.

On February 21 2017, it was announced that Sleep Token would be joining the line up for the 2017 edition of the UK Tech-Metal Fest. However, what was meant to be their second ritual ended up never happening as the collective found it necessary to cancel this appearance for unknown circumstances. Their spot was given to The Parallax Method and had Sleep Token performed, it would have been July 8 2017.

The collective had prepared some offerings to be obtained at this event but due to their impending absence, it was decided that the shirts would be still sold at the festival as well as a means of communicating with the band. This was a letter box, or ‘dream’ box, that was available at the same table as their t-shirts would be displayed.

The t-shirts that were made.
